Getting started with web analytics is not hard, but getting true value from your analytics efforts is not easy.
If you have staff that can get you started, by all means, start. There is plenty of training online, and some of it is actually quite good.
However, if your web analytics operation is being handled by folks who are not experienced in the field (read, "experienced professionals"), you should immediately research service providers that you can afford that appear to have a work and reporting style that is compatible with your preferences.
