Can nonprofits get free or low cost technology?

Yes. There are many high quality free (or low cost) resources for nonprofits in a wide variety of areas. Here are some useful examples.

Productivity Software

  • Google's G-Suite is my favorite because:
    • Even the paid version offers better bang for your buck, so the free version is that much more for that much less
    • I find the user experience in most Google apps to be superior to their counterparts in competitor suites
    • The vast popularity of Google tools means that many of your users will already be comfortable with these apps from day one
    • The overall capabilities of most apps in the G-Suite collection makes them very real options for true desktop replacements
    • Google has done such a fine job with making their platform so extensible, that many third party development shops have created extensions and templates that can be used to augment app behavior and increase efficiency
  • Microsoft's Office 365 (and other versions of Office)
  • DropBox

Creativity Software

  • Adobe's Creative Cloud is generally available at significant discounts for nonprofits

Communication and Collaboration

  • Zoom has some free and discounted options for nonprofits

Cloud Computing

  • Amazon often offers credits that can be used toward your AWS project
